Awka, July 10, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA) organised orientation course for its Administrative Officers.
According to Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu the course was in line with handover of Local Government Health staff members to ASPHCDA and subsequent creation of Local Government Health Authorities (LGHAs).
The orientation course, which took place at Awka, was for Administrative Officers seconded to the 21 LGHAs to help in carrying out administrative functions in their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs).
She enlightened the officers on reasons for creation and core programmes of the agency, noting that some gaps were identified in the running of the LGHAs for which the agency requested for Administrative and Accounting officers.
``This is the time to ask questions and have them answered, especially in a terrain like health, because previously you dealt with issues concerning other departments but now you will be dealing mainly with the Health Department,’’ she said.
Retired Director of Administration from Anambra State Civil Service Commission and Lead Facilitator for the orientation course, Mr Ikedi Ugokwe, educated the participants on duties of Administrative Officers in LGHA.
Head of Administrative Department, ASPHCDA, Mrs Cecilia Peter-Okoye explained that the essence of the training was to refresh the officers’ knowledge of administrative principles.
``This is with regards to entry requirements for officers’ cadre in the primary health department; grading and placement of officers into salary grade levels and steps, promotions and retirement.’’
Mrs Peter-Okoye, who lectured on the officers’ duties and functions, said that they would constitute local government junior staff committee which would aid in conducting their promotion interviews at the LGHAs level.
She advised them to have passion for the job and be focused, urging them to make good use of the LG scheme of service and existing circulars as it would help them in discharge of their duties.
Dr Nnamdi Uliagbafusi, Head of Immunisation and Disease Control Department, ASPHCDA, urged the participants to use their office in the LGHA to propagate the right information about vaccinations as well as dispel rumours of Coronavirus vaccines.
He emphasized a proper use of face masks, social distancing and washing of hands with soap under running water.
``You should do the right thing at the right time. Always consult your superiors when the need arises. You are the pioneer Administrative Officers in the LGHA, so you should set high standards always,’’ he said.
Administrative Officers for Aguata and Orumba South LGHAs, Mr Nnamdi Okeke and Mr Collins Offorto expressed gratitude to ASPHCDA for its efforts at organising the orientation course.
They promised to put in their best and always consult the scheme of service to ensure that they discharge their duties accordingly and effectively. (MOI)
