Awka, April 18, 2018 -- As part of efforts to increase awareness on Autism spectrum, Anambra state government has assured support and care for people with the disorder.


The Deputy Governor of the state Dr Nkem Okeke gave the assurance at Prof. Kenneth Dike e-library Awka during the awareness programme to mark the annual world Austism day.


 Dr Okeke commended governor Obiano for his sustained interest in the physically challenged and encouraged them to achieve a quality education.


In her address, the Senior Special assistant to the Governor on special education, Mrs Ify Enekwechi urged parents to observe any behavioural change in their children.


She noted that the likes of Bill Gate and Donald Trump would not have made history if their parents did not detect and attend to them early.


Mrs Enekwechi commended parents of the austistic children at the occasion for their support and resilience in ensuring that their children do not feel left behind.


She said the symptoms of autism include abnormal self absorption, lack of response to humans, limited or no language


Prisca Nathaniel, the principal of Peace Therapeutic Special School Onitsha lamented that most parents with autistic children live in denial. She called government to help in increasing awareness on Autism


High point of the event was the dance displaced by autistic children.
