Awka, April 20, 2018--Anambra State is set to commence the first round of National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) exercise from 21st to 24th April 2018.

The exercise would help prevent wild polio circulation and reduce other childhood killer diseases in Nigeria.

Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike disclosed this during a press briefing in Awka.

Dr. Akabuike represented by the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mrs Chioma Ezenyimulu, explained that NIPDs approach is a strategic plan to administer potent Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to children under 5 years old and other routine Immunization antigens.

“The plan would also encourage search for Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) in children at 0 to 15 years of age who suddenly develop weakness of the limbs, ‘’the Commissioner added.

The 4 days nationwide exercise would be at every Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities and mobile posts catchment areas which include churches, mosques, schools and markets.

Others are motor parks, village squares as well as moving from house to house and wherever children would be found.

The Commissioner urged all parents, proprietors, head teachers and others to present their children from 0 to 59months old for immunization.

“It is their right and a must for healthy growth, and the inauguration ceremony would be at PHC Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) on April 20, 2018,”Akabuike said.

He commended the State Government and Partners which include UNICEF and WHO for their support to ensure that Anambra State and the country is declared polio free.
