By Anastacia Agunwa :
Awka, Sept. 27, 2019 (MOI) Members of Anambra State House of Assembly have hailed Gov. Willie Obiano his initiative in early presentation of 2020 budget estimates to the Assembly.
Chairman, House Committee on Information and Communications, Mr Okechukwu Okoye, said it was indicative of Government’s commitment toward taking the state to greater heights.
Mr Okoye representing Aguata 2 Constituency, noted in an interview with Information Officers shortly after Governor's budget presentation at the Assembly Complex, Awka.
According to him, presenting the 2020 budget estimate in time is a way of showing his willingness and readiness to perform, carry on and do the work as expected.
``It will give ample opportunity for us as legislators to critically scrutinise the budget and come up with an action plan as expected from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies concerned with the budget,’’ he said.
Mr Emmanuel Nwafor, representing Orumba South Constituency described the budget as presented by the governor, as `a great one’.
``So long as it’s the first Governor to present 2020 budget estimate in the entire federation, the first state, is a good timing.
``I believe with this good timing, it will do a great deal to Anambra State in general.’’
Nwafor emphasised that the implementation of the 2020 budget when passed would be near perfection.
``From what we have seen, by the time we finish the appropriation and the integration of the budget, I believe it will come to become a square peg in a square hole,’’ he stressed
Majority Leader of Assembly, Mr Nnamdi Okafor, representing Awka South 1, said it showed that Gov. Obiano had the best interest of Ndi Anambra at heart.
``We are proud and happy with Gov. Obiano for his wisdom and God will continue to give him the wisdom to guide and pilot affairs of Anambra State.
``My prayer is for God Almighty to help so that all the budget estimate especially the incoming revenue will be actualised; so that our budget actuality will be 100 per cent,’’ he said.
This, according to him, will enable the Governor to be able to develop Anambra State and actualise all those good intentions that he has for the state.
House Committee Chairman on Health, Mr Carter Nnamdi Umeh, representing Aguata 1 Constituency, commended the governor for the good works he had done for Ndi Anambra.
``The 2020 budget presentation is timely, well structured and Obiano has remained resolute and prompt in the affairs of Nigeria at large.
``As a member of the Appropriation and Budget House Committee, we have promised to give the budget a legislative engineering that it requires as well as accelerated hearing,’’ Umeh said.
He urged the various MDAs to be responsive to respective House Committees to ensure that Ndi Anambra benefit realistically from the budget at the end of the day.
Mr Ebele Ejiofor, representing Anaocha 1 Constituency expressed concerns over implementation and policy direction of the 2020 budget.
``This is just the theoretical presentation as the next level is to go into critical analysis and defence by various MDAs.’’
He argued that the performance of the last budget (2019), should be weighed, to know the outcome and achievements to Ndi Anambra, ``that we are representing. My concern is about good governance for Ndi Anambra’’.
``The 2020 budget
estimate presented early, means that the governor wants it to be passed this
year in order to achieve his intentions and policies within next year,’’ he
