ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT ARREST 15 SUSPECTED FAKE TOLL COLLECTORS
By Chukwuka Ugokwe/Ifunanya Ajukwu :
Onitsha, Jan. 14, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Government has continued its onslaught against all forms of illegal revenue collection with recent arrests no fewer than 15 persons believed to be fake toll collectors.
The suspects were apprehended by security operatives working with the newly inaugurated Focus Initiative Against Touting (FIAT) at various locations in Onitsha.
Items found in their possession include currencies, tickets with Anambra State Government emblem embossment and markers.
Parading the suspects in Onitsha, the State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko, said the suspects would soon be arraigned in line with the mandate given to the Anti Touting Squad.
``The other day we caught about 18 persons and today again you have seen the arrests we have made. It is a war we must fight to survive,’’ he added.
He described as embarrassing a situation whereby some people would unlawfully pose as government revenue agents to extort money from unsuspecting public.
The commissioner emphasised the determination of the
state government to sustain the fight against touting, urging the public to be
vigilant and report anybody suspected to be involved in the act. (MOI)
