ANAMBRA COMMUNITY PARTNERS GOVERNMENT ON HEALTH FACILITY UPGRADE

Awka, Oct. 7, 2019 (MOI) In a bid to improve healthcare delivery, Anambra State Government says it will partner Alor Community to upgrade its Primary Healthcare Centre to a General Hospital.
Gov. Willie Obiano said this during foundation-laying stone for Alor the Community’s General Hospital, Idemili South Local Government Area (LGA).
He noted that his administration was focused on providing functional healthcare services delivery to Ndi Anambra.
The governor commended the community for keying into his policy of Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative in the state, urging other communities to borrow a leaf from them.
According to him, the General Hospital, when completed will be adequately equipped and the right personnel engaged.
He noted that Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) was designed to help the poor in accessing healthcare facilities across the state with little money.
``If you go out and research, you will find out that our state is the best in health insurance scheme in terms of health coverage in the county.
``We have engaged facilitators from Federal Ministry of Health to train individuals, who will now step down the training to health facility level.
``This is to ensure that our primary healthcare system is working well for Ndi Anambra and being in position to receive quality healthcare services across the state,’’ he said.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, represented Gov. Obiano at the event.
Traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo commended government for approving for the upgrade from Community Primary Health Centre to General Hospital.
President-General of Alor, Mr Okechukwu Elosiuba commended the State Government for standardising the existing facility to full-fledged ultra modern General Hospital.
``We are indeed grateful to governor and his medical team for granting us such opportunity.
``The importance of this step cannot be over emphasised; it will enable our people to access better medical facility, thereby improving their quality of life.
``The upgrade of this hospital is being done and supported by a group of Alor Young Professionals and businessmen, known as Alor Young Initiative,’’ he noted.
``We have resolved that the facility will be named: `Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano General Hospital,’ when he will inaugurate it in six months time.’’
Chairman of the occasion, Mr Barry Ezeukwu commended the Federal and State Governments for appointing Alor indigenes into different key positions in government.
Mr Ezeukwu, a pharmacist, pledged to equip the Pharmacy Department of the Hospital to world-class standard. (MOI)
