Amichi (Nnewi South LGA), June 11, 2019 (MOI) Bishop of Amichi Diocese (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor has lauded Gov. Willie Obiano for supporting the Church, especially the Anglican Diocese of Amichi.

Bishop Ikeakor said this during Worship and Thanksgiving Service held on June 9 at the Cathedral Church of St. Andrew's, Amichi, to mark the end of the 4th Synod of the Diocese.

The theme of the synod is: ``Rediscovering and Harnessing the Ministry of the Laity for Holistic and Effective Church Growth in the Anglican Church." (1 Corinthians 12: 1-end).

During the service, Ikeakor praised the Governor for contributing to humanity and the work of God in the Diocese and the state.

``Gov. Obiano has done well in many areas in the state. His contribution to infrastructure development in the state is obvious.

``He has helped us greatly in building and maintaining the Diocesan Hospital, Diocesan School of Midwifery and the School of Public Health.

``Anambra has the best network of roads in the entire southeast. His contribution to safety and security in the state has ensured adequate security of life and property.’’

Bishop Ikeakor, however, decried a resurgence of crime, especially at Upper Iweka and other areas of Onitsha, urging the governor to look into the security situation in those areas.

``I know the government has invested a lot to provide security in the state and the commitment toward safety and security had never been in doubt.

``However, I want to use this opportunity to call Governor's attention to security concerns, especially at Upper Iweka and environs.’’

In his speech, Gov. Obiano, who was represented by his Principal Secretary, Chief Willie Nwokoye re-assured the Bishop and Ndi Anambra that security of the state remained a priority of his government.

The Governor also pledged to continue supporting the church and any venture that would positively improve the lives of Ndi Anambra.

``The safety and security of Ndi Anambra is top priority of my government.

``Crime will always fight back, but I can assure you that security agencies have been fully mobilised to deal with those concerns. We are getting results already.’’

He affirmed that government will also continue to support the church. ``I see the church as an integral part of government through which a lot can be done for the people.

``So we will continue to give our support and answer whenever we are called to support the work of God.’’

Gov. Obiano expressed gratitude to the Bishop, the priests and the laity for their role in promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among all denominations of the church in the state.

He urged the body of Christ in the state to ensure that the theme of the synod reflects in the church and in daily lives of the Christian community in Anambra state.  (MOI)
