Awka, April 26, 2018 --A new caretaker committee consisting of 27members have been inaugurated by Anambra State government to pilot the affairs of Onitsha Main Market.

Inaugurating the committee in Awka on April 24, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Markets and Wealth Creation, Dr Christian Madubuko urged them to remain focused and be diligent to their duties.

Mmadubuko advised them to ensure that Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) and other levies collected were properly accounted for and remitted into government coffers.

“There would be no illegal structures and hawking in and around the market to enable easy access into the market,” the Commissioner said.

He further advised them not to follow the corrupt paths of the past administration and warned that anyone caught siphoning government funds will be dealt with.

In a remark, the chairman of the market, Mr. Chidozie Okeke congratulated the committee on their new post and enjoined them to discharge their duties effectively.

In a vote of thanks, one of the committee members Deacon Chike Okoye promised that they would work with the state government to bring the market back to its past glory.
