Awka, May 23, 2018 (MOI) The Student Union Government (SUG), Federal Polytechnic, Oko has called on Anambra State Transport Commissioner to intervene over exorbitant fares charged the students by transport companies plying Nnewi-Ekwulobia and environs.

The union made the call during familiarisation visit to the Commissioner for Road, Rail and Water Transportation at Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.

The Commissioner, Mr Uchenna Okafor assured the union that the issues would be resolved in no distant time.

According to him, I appreciate your courage for informing me of the challenge.

``A communication channel will soon be created between the union and the Ministry for easy dissemination of information.’’

The President of the Union, Akuche Izuchukwu noted that the union had met with various transport companies around the school to negotiate an appropriate fare that would be convenient for students.

He stressed that only the Urban Mass Transit Company was able to accept the proposal for lower fare noting that had compelled other companies to try to fight the company.

The Vice-President, Mitchelle Okonkwor said that some hoodlums try to attack the Urban Mass Transit.

She thanked the commissioner for his promise to address the issues and enjoined the students to be calm and law-abiding. (MOI)
