In a bid to ensure functionary water scheme in the State, the Anambra state government has commenced the rehabilitation of abandoned water projects and the construction of new ones across the State.
Speaking during the signing of the contract document, the Commissioner for Power and Water Development Mr. Obi Nwankwo said that the Ministry has selected reputable thirty two contractors for the rehabilitation of abandoned water boreholes in the various communities across the State.
The Commissioner represented by Mr. Douglas Mbah , stated that the State government under the watch of Governor Willie Obiano will stop at nothing in ensuring that the standard of living of Ndi Anambra is improved and charged the contractors to ensure they stick to the guidelines stated in the agreement.
Dr Tony Anukwu in his speech, commended the state government on its move to make sure that all the abandoned water boreholes is rehabilitated and new ones constructed adding that when the project must have been completed, every household in the state will have access to water supply.
Dr. Anukwu called on the contractors to approach the work with high standard, diligence and be sure to complete their work within the six weeks time frame given to them.
In their various remarks, Mr. Clement Chigbo the State UNICEF consultant and Mr. Emma Igwebuike a director in the Ministry of Power and Water Development thanked Governor Obiano for the initiative, adding that all the funds needed for the project have been made available by the state government.
