NUJ TO HOLD 2ND ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON JULY 12

Awka, June 6, 2018 (MOI) Chairman Anambra State Information Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Tony Nweke has announced plans to stage the annual conference of the union.
The event has been scheduled to hold on July 12.
Nweke said this during an interactive session with newsmen in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
The chairman, who doubles as Acting Director of Information, said that this would be the second conference in the series.
He added that just like the event in 2017, it would hold at the Conference Hall of the office of the Head of Service (HOS).
According to Nweke the aim of the conference is to provide a forum to enable information officers in the field to interface with experts and scholars in the field of mass communication.
Nweke added that it would be an avenue for members to choose and discuss topical issues with a view to improving their capacity and broaden their horizon for better service delivery.
The conference has a theme: ``To Be the Information Management In The Age of Social Media, Challenges and Way Forward’’.
Nweke added that the initiative would enhance the skills of the information officers in the 21 Local Government Areas (LGA), Ministries, and Parastatal Agencies.
``Without effective dissemination of information, government cannot galvanise the people for development of the state.
``Our officers are in positions to impact in the socio-economic growth of the state through effective propagation of developmental ideas that will better the lots of the state.
``The conference will prepare the members to be able to use the position they occupy to interpret government policies that will propel the state to greater heights,’’ Nweke explained.
Nweke announced Barr. Harry Udu, the HOS will chair the event while Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha will be the keynote Speaker.
The Head of Department, Mass Communication, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Venatus Agbani will be the Guest Lecturer.
The forum will also
feature discussants that will include former Chairman, Anambra State Council of
NUJ, Mr Victor Agusiobo and current Managing Director, National Light
Newspaper, Sir Chuka Nnabuife. (MOI)
