02.Catholic women commends Gov. Obiano on his care for the mentally ill.
The director catholic women organization, Mrs Appolonia Chukwuma has applauded Governor Willie Obiano on his gaint stride and care givento the mentally sick persons in Anambra state.
Mrs Chukwuma made the commendation during her visit with the Catholic Women Organization, Agulu denary to the Ministry of Social Welfare Children and Women Affairs ‘s mental and rehabilitation home,Nteje .She remarked “that since the creation of Anambra State that it is only Governor Obiano that has passion to care for our brothers and sisters who are suffering from one mental problem or the other.”
Lady Theresa Aguluka, the organiser Agulu denary also commended Governor Obiano not only for his care for the mentally ill but also on the massive development of the rural communities through the commuinty choose your project program.
The women presented various food items like bags of rice,beans,yams, cloths,fruits,malts etc to the rehabilitation home.
The commissioner for social welfare children and women affairs, Dr Mrs Victoria Chikwelu, thanked the director and the organizer for making out their time to visit the mental and rehabilitation home,Nteje. She told the women that the wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano’s NGO (CAFE) has been contributing a lot towards the upkeep of the inmates of the home.
03. INNOMA,UKWALLA AND OROMA ETITI GET SKILL AQUISITION CENTERS.

The wife of the Governor of Anambra State,Her Excellency,Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano has commissioned the skill acquisition center in Innoma, Ukwalla and Oroma Etiti during her visit to Anambra west local government area.
In her speech, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano said that the skill centers will bring development and job creation to the rural areas so that youths will be engaged in different skills, ranging from tailoring,computer,catering, beadmaking,hair dressing,vulcanizing etc, stressing that after their training they would be empowered to start on their own.
The commissioner for social welfare, children and women affairs,Dr Mrs Victoria Chikwelu,commended the wife of the Governor,Chief mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for being youth and women friendly. “Not only that she is taking care of the mentally ill at Nteje through her Ngo (CAFE ) she has directed that other skill aquisition centers should be created at Anaku in Ayamelem Local government area,and also at Enugu otu, Aguleri , mkpunando in Anambra east.As l am talking with you now those skill centers have started operation in these areas, ” Dr. Chikwelu noted.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of sewing machines, soap making equipment, vulcanizing machines, computers, printers, photocopiers, dryers, oven, gas cooker, kitchen utensils, popcorn oven and generating set to the skill centres.

05. NDI ANAMBRA LAUDSCHIEF MRS. OBIANO FOR SUPPORTING THE LESS PRIVILEGED

Citizens of the state had continued to commend the wife of the state Governor Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano for using her family enhancement initiative (CAFE) to uplift the living standards of the people.
In a statement in Awka, one of the beneficiaries of the programme Miss Collins Precious Ada from Nibo thanked chief Mrs Obiano for giving her the opportunity to undergo training in confectionery, stressing that the modern Oven giving to her has repositioned her business.
Another beneficiary who received bead making materials, Mrs. Chidimma Okafor from Agulu said that she learnt a lot during the one month training, stressing that she is now self employed.
She enjoined citizens of the state to continue to support chief Mrs. Obiano in her efforts to improving the living standards of the people.
Also contributing, the special Adviser to the Governor on youth empowerment and mobilization for control of HIV/AIDS Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim thanked the Governors wife for her efforts in reducing the rate of unemployment in the state through the empowerment programme.
It will be recalled that the wife of the state Governor, chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano recently empowered over two hundred and ten less privileged people from various parts of the state to enable them fend for themselves.
06. OBIANO APPROVES SECOND PHASE OF EMPLOYMENT FOR PERSONS LIVING WITH DISABILITY

The governor of Anambra state, His excellency, Chief Willie Obiano has approved the employment of persons living with disability for the second time into the Anambra state civil service.
Making this known to the press the Chairman Civil Service Commission, Barr. Mrs Ngozi Melifonwu stated that this second phase of employment for the physically challenged is to ensure fair play amongst them. She said that the ongoing recruitment exercise is to include those with Higher diploma certificate (HND), National diploma certificate (OND), West Africa examination council (WAEC) certificate. She further expressed the State government’s readiness to make better the lives of Ndi Anambra especially those living with disability.
In expressing their happiness one of the persons living with disability, Mr Ezeamaechi Mathew said that they are most grateful to the Governor of Anambra State for this great benevolence and pledged their support for him in the upcoming election. He also noted that the governor is now a reference point as other states in the federation have started to carry along persons living with disability. It could be recalled that His excellence had approved in January the employment of persons living with disability who have degree and over seventy of them were employed in the state. And now he has extended it to others who posses other qualifications.
07. Fed Govt to protect child’s right, as Nigeria marks Children’s Day

School children in Anambra State have joined their counterparts across the nation to mark 2017 Children’s Day Celebration. The 2017 children’s Day celebration; which has its theme “Child Protection and the Sustainable Development Goals : Issues and Opportunities” took place at Ekwueme Square, Awka, it witnessed an unprecedented turnout of school children from different schools, both public and private. A children’s parliament dedicated to the day had sat a day before the date of the main event at Cana House in Awka. A comminuque issued after the sitting of the parliament had called for the welfare and protection of children in the society.
In an address, the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo , whose address was read by Governor Willie Obiano himself represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Kate Omenugha, said one of the cardinal objectives of Buhari administration was provision of quality education to children, with ease, as a fundamental foundation of economic and social development.
Acting President Osinbajo stated that the federal government had focused on addressing the terrible scourge of sexual violence against children, recalling that in November 2016, the campaign to end Child Marriage was launched to ensure that many children as possible were able to fully enjoy their childhood, protected from all the difficulties associated with this phenomenon.
” he said that the federal Government had, in a bid to improve child enrolment, retention and completion in public schools, in June 2016, the Federal Government launched the Home Grown School Feeding Programme, where one free nutritional meal is provided to pupils in the first three years of selected public primary school on every school day. He disclosed that as at present, the government is providing meals to 1,274620 pupils in 9212 Schools in nine states.”
Prof Osinbajo observed that the theme of this year’s Children’s Day was to afford another opportunity to explore additional avenues for the improvement of children’s wellbeing through the development of programmes and projects tailored to achieve the targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to him, some of the goals include, eradication of poverty, eradication of hunger and the achievement of food security and improved nutrition, attainment of good health, particularly through the prevention of child death and the provision of inclusive equitable quality education and the promotion of life long learning opportunities.
He however urged the state governments, Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as non governmental organization to work together to come up with strategic plans of action aimed at successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and harnessing the opportunities of such implementation for the benefit of the Nigerian Child.
Reading the address of the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Dr Victoria Chikwelu, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Azuka Offormata stated that Governor Obiano administration had invested heavily on poverty alleviation programmes and introduces several palliatives to cushion the effect of economic recession on parents and ensure they were able to fulfill their obligations to the children.
Dr Chikwelu noted that the recent investment in agriculture by Governor Obiano government was aimed at improving the standard of living and promote productivity in ensuring adequate food security, in line with the federal government plans to enhance food sufficiency.
On his part, the Speaker, Anambra State Children’ Parliament, Rt Hon Edden-Rex Abarah regretted that the high level of victimization and sexual harassment some children face, had thwarted their vision and self-esteem in the society.
Highlights of the occassion were match past, cutting of Children’s Day Cake, cultural and calisthenics displays.
08. SOCIAL WELFARE MINISTRY CONCLUDES ITS HUMAN CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

A day workshop has been organised to strengthen and reposition the social welfare workers in Anambra State for effective delivery.
The workshop was organised by the State Ministry of social welfare, children and women Affairs.
Delivering a lecture at the workshop, the permanent secretary women affairs,Dr Azuka Offomata gave an approach towards solving the problem of Anti social behavior among the youth which include parents, teachers and guidance Councillors.
To this end he emphasized that a good collaboration of these three groups with the social workers will produce the best result in tackling juvenile delinquencies and anti social behavior among the youths.
The workshop with the topic “preventing anti social behavior among the youths” was tackled by highlighting causative factors, impact, prevention and the roles of social workers.
About forty_ eight social workers in the state attended the workshop.
In her vote of thanks the Director women Affairs Mrs Ngozi Ezeanuna thanked the Resource person for the lecture and promised that participants will utilize what they gathered at the workshop for the well being of the society.
09.ANAMBRA CELEBRATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF AFRICAN CHILD, KICKS AGAINST CHILD’S RIGHT VIOLATION.
Anambra state has joined the rest of the world to celebrate this year International Day of the African Child. Speaking, at Awka, the commissioner of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Dr Victoria Chikwelu assured that the Willie Obiano Administration will not relent on it’s efforts in ensuring equal right for the disabled and the non disabled children in the state. The commissioner who was represented by the ministry Permanent Secretary Mr Azuka Oformata explained that the theme of this year’s celebration which is: “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for Children in Africa; Accelerating protection empowerment and equal opportunity” is attainable and keys into the plans of the present government agenda in kicking against Child’s Right Violation.
Interacting with the children, the WASH consultant, Mr Clement Chigbo urged the children to be of good behaviour as well as make the state and humanity proud, adding that by 2030 no child of Anambra Origin who is of school age would be out of school or would be engaged in child’s labour or trafficking, cultism and other vices.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Field Officer Social Policy, Mr Ibrahim Conteh educated the children on the Six Development Goals, Water and Sanitation. Another speaker Sir Emekwa Ejide also enlightened them on the right and responsibilities of a child and how the right of the child will be protected.
It will be recalled that the International Day of African Child was initiated by OAU since 1991 and its been celebrated globally every year on 16th of June. This year’s occasion of African Child was organized by EU, UNICEF in collaboration with the Anambra State Government and the ABS in Awka. Drama, cultural dances were performed by various school children and the cutting of cake by the children formed the side attraction of the event.
