ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY RESUMES PLENARY, MOVES TO CONSTRUCT STANDARD ROUNDABOUT AT OYEAGU ABAGANA
By John Ndu
Awka, April 19, 2018 -- The Anambra State House of Assembly has asked the Executive arm of governmentt to urgently construct a standard roundabout at Oyeagu, Abagana junction to enhance free flow of traffic and to mitigate associate hazards in the area.
The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored by the member representing Njikoka II constituency, Dr Pete Ibida and 21 others during plenary on April 18 in Awka.
Chief Ibida observed that the Oyeagu Abagana junction links various local government areas in the state as well as Onitsha-Enugu Expressway; it connects the Northern and Western Nigeria.
He contended that the constant surge and accidents usually experienced at that junction, has caused the state unquantifiable resources.
Ibida, then, stressed the need to construct a roundabout there so as to improve the socio-economic well-being of the state.
Supporting the motion, Mr. Obinna Emenaka a pharmacist of Anambra East constituency and Mrs Vivian Okadigbo representing Oyi constituency, said the constitution provides the need for structural adjustment to accommodate growing population in Anambra state.
The speaker, Barr Rita Maduagwu who read the resolution of the House, used the opportunity to welcome House members into the chamber after the Easter Break.
She commended them for using the Easter break to execute their Constituency Projects, which have continued to improve the well-being of Ndi Anambra and their various constituencies in particular.
Maduagwu promised Ndi Anambra that the lawmakers would continue to make people-oriented laws and policies for the overall benefit of the state.
A bill for a law to regulate smoking in public places in Anambra state was presented by Mr. Ikem Uzoezie of Aguata II constituency and read for the First time at the floor of the House.
