Ayamelum, June 8, 2018 (MOI) A Former Councillor,Umumbo Ward,Ayamelum LocalGovernment Area (LGA), Mr Joseph Dibia has commended Gov.Willie Obiano's efforts towards increasing rice production capacity of the state.

This he said was shown in the governor's recent visit to LAIP Omor Rice Fields and JOSAN Giant Rice Mill atUmumbo both in Ayamelum LGA, Anambra State.

Mr Dibia said this in an interview with Information Officers at Omor.

He said that the governor's visit was borne out of his desire to perfect the Agriculture revolution vision of his administration.

"Reactivating the giant mill as promised by the governor will enable us produce more rice all year round," he said.

The Former Councillor noted that Umumbo Rice Mill which has the capacity to produce not less than fifty thousand metric tons of rice per annum, was built during the era of former President ShehuShagari, but has been abandoned for a long time.

Mr Dibia expressed gratitude that the ongoing upgrade of the facility would double the Mill's capacity, thereby leading to increasing rice production.

He appealed to Gov. Obiano not to relent in the bold step taken by his administration to refurbish the mill, noting that Ayamelum has fertile land for Agriculture.

The Former Councillor, however, urged the state government to ensure timely rehabilitation of the Giant Rice Mill.

“If the Mill starts functioning, it will help rice farmers in cultivating enough quantities of rice for both local and international supplies,” he said. (MOI)
