Ihiala Local Government
In keeping with his promise to commence massive construction of roads before the rainy season, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has commenced the rehabilitation of the Nkwogbe/Eziani axis of the Orlu Road in Ihiala, Ihiala local government area of the state.
The work which is on-going commenced with the construction of drainage systems on both sides of the road to allow free flow of water. Hitherto, the road which was in a terrible state of repair had one side drainage system which, over the years, had proved inadequate to contain the heavy flow of flood on the road during the rainy season. Commuters on the road had because of its poor nature, diverted through Azia on the Onitsha-Owerri expressway to connect adjourning towns in Anambra and Imo states.
Some of the people interviewed expressed gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for his intervention which they described as big relief to the people of the area. Joshua Ohaeri, a trader along the Ihiala-Orlu road noted that commuters had faced untold hardship passing through the road particularly during the rainy season. “During the rainy season, this whole place you see is usually covered by flood, forcing us to move our wares inside our shops. Even Okada riders find it difficult to navigate through the flood talk less of car owners. Only the big lorries dare the road during the rains” he said. Another resident of the area, Agness Ndinojuo thanked the Governor for remembering Ihiala people in his roads rehabilitation plans. “We thank our Governor, Willie Obiano for doing this road. We have suffered greatly plying on this road. The food on the road is usually too much during the rains but we hope that with construction of gutters on both sides, the road will last”
The Ihiala-Orlu road connects most of the communities in the local government and leads to Imo State.
