By John Ndu : The Nigeria Police Force has expressed satisfaction on the level of support the Obiano’s administration had provided to the force in the last three years.
This was disclosed when the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris Kpotum paid a courtesy visit to the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Speaking after a closed door visit, the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano said his administration would continue providing for the welfare of the police in the state, to ensure adequate security of lives and property.
Governor Obiano noted that the safety enthroned in the state was made possible by the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Navy Civil Defence Corp and other security agencies.
Chief Obiano also revealed as one of their discussions, the need for the federal government to improve on the welfare of Nigeria Police Force and strategize various ways to resolve their needs.
The IGP Idris, represented by DIG in charge of Research and Planning, Mr Val Ntochukwu said he was on familiarization tour to the police high commands in the South East States to ascertain their modus operandi and welfare of Nigeria Police vis-a-vis the commissioners and Assistants Inspector General of Police.
Mr Idris described Anambra as the safest state, compared to other states in the country, attributing it to the efforts of Governor Obiano to clamp down crime and criminality in the state.
The IG urged Governor Obiano to sustain the tempo of his support to the Force, as every strategy is put in place to replicate security system in Anambra to other states.
He stressed the Force is responsive in the area of promotion which had been a routine exercise subject to provisional vacancies in the Force, which is targeted towards improving the welfare and efficiency of Nigeria Police Force.
He revealed that the Force recently had promoted over 3000 rank and files, pointed out the zeal of the federal government to create more establishment in the Force to little or no stagnation in the Force.
