By John Ndu : Fidelity Bank PLC in partnership with Gazzelle Business Solutions Limited is organising Fidelity Youth Empowerment Academy to empower 200 undergraduates in Anambra state.
The five-day skills acquisition programme would hold at the Federal Polytechnic Oko during which the 200 undergraduate participants would be trained in various skills such as Avante Garde Gele, Fashion designing, Bead making, Cocktail, Mobile photography and Fruit fountain.
Briefing newsmen at Fidelity Bank office Awka, the Managing Director of the bank, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo said the youth empowerment shows that the bank is contributing to create entrepreneurs, reduce unemployment, eradicate extreme poverty and financial dependence of Ndi Anambra and Nigerians at large.
Represented by the Regional Head of Fidelity Bank Mr Leonard Ezeugwu, the Managing Director announced that the programme was successfully held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu state and Waziri Umaru Polytechnic Bernin Kebbi, Kebbi state respectively and have impacted over 700 young participating students.
Giving elaborate description of skills participants would acquire, the Head Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability of the bank, Mr Chris Nnakwe said the CSR of Fidelity Bank rests in four areas: environment, education, health and youth empowerment, which the current programme falls in.
He noted that the Fidelity Youth Empowerment Academy is to empower every young Nigerian who must have registered online in partnership with the school to ensure objectivity and achievement of desired goal.
Mr Nnakwe expressed optimism that the success of the programme in Kebbi and UNN would be replicated in Oko with greater magnitude.
Also speaking, the Deputy Rector Federal Polytechnic Oko, Mrs Gladys Anene said the school trains youths in skill acquisition as well as produce skilled manpower of the society, which made Gazelle to indicate interest in them in line with the demands of the school’s regulating body, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
She said her school has entrepreneurship and other ventures for manpower training and issue certificates thereafter, adding that students to the Fidelity Youth Empowerment Academy would be drawn from all the departments of the institution for the one week programme starting from 15th to 19th May 2017.
Responding, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Gazzelle Business Solution Ltd, Mr Muna Onuzo described the union with Fidelity Bank as great partnership targeted at solving the unemployment problem in Nigeria.
