By John Ndu : The Federal government of Nigeria, alongside African Development Bank has awarded the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, the best Governor on Agriculture, 2016.
It was revealed that the award was due to his unprecedented investment and achievements the present government had recorded within three years in office.
Speaking at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, while addressing a group known as Anambra Consolidation Forum, Governor Obiano promised not to relent in making the state a first choice investment destination and a hub for industrialisation.
The governor maintained that the present government had invested heavily on agriculture to ensure food sufficiency, saying that the state produced 80,000 metric tonnes of rice in 2014 , but had drastically increased to 245,000 metric tonnes.
Governor Obiano said the Ufuma farm which is the largest integrated rice farm in the south east would embark on three planting season to produce 90,000 metric tonnes annually, to add to the state’s consumption capacity of 300,000, which would be sufficient enough for the state as well as to export to other countries.
Chief Obiano said his administration had attracted $ 7.2 billion in addition to the recent inaugurated Cargo International Airport City, that would enhance exportation of goods, and project the state to global recognition.
The Leader of the Group, Anambra Consolidation Forum, Mr Emmanuel Mmaduabuchi opined that Anambra was key to the existence of Igbo Nation, regretted that some desperate politicians in the state had traded the pride and integrity of the state by allowing external individuals to influence the political decisions of mass.
Mr Mmaduabuchi also bemoaned the plans of those desperate politicians to engage some youths to distort the forth coming governorship election and the peace the people of the state had been enjoying.
The Leader stated the resolve of the group to solidly support the dream of the present administration, especially its second term bid to further continue attracting meaningful development for the betterment of the state.
He commended Governor Obiano for his doggedness in transforming the state, especially the recent inaugurated Cargo International Airport City, adding that it would wipe away the pain and sufferings and give Anambra a place of pride in the Nation.
The highlight was unanimous endorsement of Governor Obiano for second term by the Group.
