CAFE/UNDP Distribute Empowerment Items: Mrs. Obiano Insists On Judicious Utilization.
BY GAB ALOKWE : Items worth millions of naira were recently distributed to one hundred beneficiaries from Anambra state by the Caring Family Enhancement (CAFE) initiative in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka.
Among the items are generating sets, shoe making machines, bench grinders and sets of computers.
Others are soap making machines, dress sewing machines, dryers, gas cookers and cylinders among others.
Distributing the items, the wife of the state governor, Chief Mrs ebelechukwu Obiano represented by the commissioner for social welfare, children and women affairs , Dr Victoria chikwelu charged the beneficiaries to ensure that they make judicious use of the equipment to empower themselves urging them to always seek assistance whenever faced with difficulties.
Mrs Obiano revealed that some of the mentally challenged persons rehabilitated by her organization at the rehabilitation centre Nteje have been treated and discharged while more are been admitted into the facility.
She commended the UNDP for partnering with CAFE to train and empower Ndi-Anambra urging them never to relent. She disclosed the intention of the state government to employ some physically challenged persons in the state.
In an address, a representative of UNDP, Barrister Nnenna Olike called on government and organizations to serve as guarantors to youths to enable them access funds to boost their businesses, while calling for the monitoring of those empowered to ensure efficiency in the Programme.
On her part, the SSA to the governor on donor agencies, Nneka Onwudiwe gave reasons for the partnership with the UNDP and Chief Mrs ebelechukwu Obiano’s CAFE Programme which she said are in line with the UNDP’s social investment Programme.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ilunu Iwu from ogbunike, Promise Nwora and Victoria Okonkwo from Enugu-Agidi expressed gratitude to governor Obiano, his wife and UNDP for their generousity and urged ndi-anambra to vote the governor again.
