Anambra Trains Youths on Tractor Operation and Maintenance

By Obiageli Nwankwo : In line with Governor Willie Obiano’s determination to arrest Youths restiveness in the state through empowerment in agriculture, IFAD Assisted Value Chain Development Project (VCDP) in collaboration with Hello tractors, Nig. Ltd has embarked on a week training for Youths, drawn from 5 participating Local Government Area under Value Chain Development Project.

The one week training going on at ADP Awka premises is targeted at empowering the youths on tractors operations and maintenance in their designated Local Government Areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the State Project Coordinator, (SPC), on Value Chain Development Project, Mr.Agwuncha stated that the youths numbering 15 were selected from registered cooperatives from Anyamelum, Anambra East and West, Awka North and Orumba North, the five participating Local Government Areas under, VCDP.

He stated that at the end of the training, the youths are expected to be skilled in operating and maintaining the tractors for cooperatives in their local Government Areas and other interested parties.

Mr Agwuncha, disclosed that the collaboration with Hello Tractors, an Abuja  based Technology Firm with Specialty on Tractor Operations is for sanitization of operations in the field and entrenchment of  accountability in the sector.

In remark, Engr Munza, the Lead Hardware Engineer for Hello Tractors revealed that Hello tractors, a two wheel drive is a smart way of working in the field as they come with a tracking device which can be monitored from an app installed in a cell phone.

This tracking device, he revealed, helps to keep one updated on the where about of the tractors at any point in time, when it is working and the number of hectares it covered amongst other things.

He further noted that the tractors are already in use in some states in the federation such as Kebbi State, where it had recorded a huge success, and expressed the hope that the same feat would be recorded in Anambra state.

Some of the trainees, Chidiebere Nwankwo of Ifeadigo farmers’ cooperatives, Awka North and Ekwealor Nicholas of Igwebueze Farmers cooperatives, Anambra West interviewed, expressed their joy over the opportunity offered to them and commended governor Obiano for his unflinching support to the youths in the state.
